Measure voltage between Ground
and terminal 1 of the Transformer
connection to the GUI.
Is 24 VAC present?
Yes
No
Error Message - LOW PRESSURE
Measure voltage between Ground
and terminal 1 of the Safety Switch
connection to the GUI.
Is 24 VAC present?
1. Check Fuse (4 Amp)
If fuse is blown check for
shorts in wiring before replacing.
2. If fuse is not blown
replace Transformer
Error Message - LOW PRESSURE
Measure voltage between Ground
and the Black wire of the Pressure
Switch.
Is 24 VAC present?
No
Yes
1. Check Black wire
connections to GUI in terminal 1
of the Safety Switch connection .
2. If Black wire is OK replace
GUI
No
Error Message - LOW PRESSURE
Measure voltage between Ground
and the White wire of Pressure
Switch.
Is 24 VAC present?
Yes
1. If a fireman’s switch or
control system is installed
replace loop wire to
Fireman’s Switch block
and retest.
No
1. Check Black wire
connections to Pressure Switch.
2. Do continuity test on
Black wire.
3. Replace Black wire.
1. Is filter pump on?
2. Is filter clean?
3. Do Back Pressure Test.
4. Replace Pressure Switch

Measure voltage between Ground
and the White wire of Pressure
Switch.
Is 24 VAC present?
Yes
No
Error Message - LOW PRESSURE
Measure voltage between Ground
and terminal 2 of the Safety Switch
connection to the GUI.
Is 24 VAC present?
1. Check White wire
connections to GUI
in terminal 2 of the
Safety Switch connection.
2. Replace GUI
No

Error Message - HI LIM SW
Measure voltage between Ground
and terminal 3 of the Safety Switch
connection to the GUI.
Is 24 VAC present?
No
Replace GUI
Yes

Measure voltage between Ground
and terminal 4 of the Safety Switch
connection to the GUI.
Is 24 VAC present?
No
Replace High Limit
harness and both limits.
Yes

and terminal 5 of the Safety Switch
connection to the GUI.

Yes

Replace Fuse Link

Measure voltage between Ground
and left hand terminal of Hi Limit
Manual Reset (located in Flue Vent).
Is 24 VAC present?
Yes
Check white wire between
Fuse Link and Hi Limit
Manual Reset.
No
Error Message - EXT SW 1
Measure voltage between Ground
and right hand terminal of Hi Limit
Manual Reset (located in Flue Vent).
Is 24 VAC present?
No
1. Look for blockage in Flue.
2. Try resetting Hi Limit
Manual Reset.
3. If it doesn’t reset replace
the Flue Gas Switch.

connection to the GUI.

No
Check white wire between
Flue Gas Switch
and GUI.
Yes

Measure voltage between
Ground and terminal 7 of the
Safety Switch connection to
the GUI.
Is 24 VAC present?
No
Replace GUI
No
Check Purple wire
Error Message - AIR FLOW SW
Measure voltage between Ground
and Black/Yellow wire
of the Fan Pressure Switch.
Is 24 VAC present?
No
1. Is Fan on?
2. Is the tube to the Fan
Pressure Switch
blocked or kinked?
3. R eplace the Fan
Pressure Switch
Error Message - AIR FLOW SW
Measure voltage between Ground
and terminal 8 of the Safety Switch
connection to the GUI.
Is 24 VAC present?
No
Check Black/Yellow wire
Yes
Replace GUI
Error Message - AGS
AGS indicates a problem
with oscillating filter pump
pressure or flame rectification.
Is the system circulating properly?
No
Clean filter pump and
skimmer baskets. Clean
filter. Check impeller.
Yes
Error Message - AGS
Is flame present?
No
1. Do Hot Surface Igniter Test
2. Do Manometer test on gas
supply line.
3. Check for 24 VAC between
Ground and the Brown wire of
the Gas Valve. If 24 VAC is
present replace the gas valve
Yes
Error Message - AGS
Remove Black wire in terminal
FS from the Ignition Control.
Do in Micro-amp test.
Is 5 Micro-amps present?
No
Check Flame proving Rod
for damage, poor alignment
with burners, bad connection
to Black wire.
Yes

Replace Fenwal Ignition Control

Measure voltage between F2 on
the Fenwal and Ground.
Is 120 VAC present?
Yes

and Purple Wire of the Fan
Pressure Switch.
Is 24 VAC present?
Yes
Error Message - TEMP SENSOR
Remove Thermister from GUI
and do resistance test. Compare results
with resistance chart on page ?
Is Thermister within range?
Yes
Error Message - TEMP SENSOR
Replace GUI
No
Replace Thermister
Problem - Fan does not shut off
Turn off all line power to the heater
Remove Yellow/Back wire from
IND terminal of the Fenwal
Ignition Control. Turn line power
on to the heater but leave the thermostat
selector switch off.
Does the Fan go on with the
Yellow/Back disconnected?
Yes
Measure voltage
between Ground and
the Yellow/Back wire.
Is 24 VAC pres ent?
No
Problem - Fan does not shut off
Replace Fenwal Ignition Control

Replace GUI
