INSTALLATION AND TURN UP
InstalltheDFR1onthefrontwindshieldoronthedashboard.
Forbestperformance,positionthedetectoraslowaspossible
inthecenterofthefrontwindshield.Besuretheunit’sviewof
theroad,eithertothefrontortheback,isclear.
INSTALLATION
WINDSHIELD
1. Cleanthewindshieldandtherubbercupsofthemounting
bracket.Attachtherubbercupstothebracket.
2. Pushthebracketfirmlyontothewindshield.
3. Slidetheunitontothebracket.
4. Gentlyadjustthebracketangleifneeded.
Do not use the detector to adjust the bracket angle.
5. Plugthepowercordintothedetector.
6. Plugthecigarettelighteradapterintothevehicle’scigarette
lighter.
Youcanremovethedetectorbypressingthe button.Eject
Dashboard
1. Placetheunitonthedashboardsothatithasaclear,level
viewoftheroad.
The unit cannot be readjusted aer nal installaon.
2. Removethebackingfromonesideofthehookandloop
fastenertape.
3. Placethatfastenertapeonthedashboardwhereyouwant
theunit.
4. Attachtheotherpieceofthefastenertapetothebottomof
theunitandattachtheunittothedashboardfastenertape.
You can remove the unit as needed.
5. Plugthepowercordintothedetector.
6. Plugthecigarettelighteradapterintothevehicle’scigarette
lighter.
TURN UP
Oncethedetectorisinstalledandthecaristurnedon,turnthe
volumedialawayfromyouuntilitclicks.Theunitisnowturned
on.
TheLEDcyclesthroughthedisplayinthisorder:X-K-Ka-
Laser,thensignalstrengthexceptforLaser(L).
Oncethecycleiscomplete,thedetectorturnstostandby
mode.

DETECTION
TheDFR1detectsemissionsfromradargunsandsoundsan
audioalertforthedriver.Thedetectordetermineswhichband
rangethesignalisfromanddisplaysthatfrequencytypeonthe
display(X,K,Ka,orL).Thesignalstrength(1through5)also
displaysasapplicable.Ifthereisaspecificalertcode,thatis
alsodisplayed.
False signals can come from other devices such as the
automac doors at a supermarket or even another
car’s cruise control; these devices operate in the
same frequency ranges as radar guns.
BANDS
TheDFR1recognizes:
• XBand:Thisbandwasthefirstfrequencybandassignedto
policeradar.Itoperatedonalowerfrequency(10.525GHz)
withahigherpoweroutput.
• KBand:Thisbandisthemostcommonfrequencyusedin
radardetectors(24.150).Itsrelativelysmallwavelengthgives
itaclockingdistanceofabout1/4milealthough,depending
ontheenvironment,itcandetectupto2miles.
• KaBand:Overtheyears,theKabandincorporatedthe
Ka-Band,theKaWide-Band,andtheKaSuperWide-Band.
Mostphotoradars(alsoknownasstoplightcameras)use
thisband.
• Laser:Policeusethelaser’snarrowerlightpulsesfor
speeddetectionasitismoreaccurateandfaster.Laser
beamsaremoredetectableaftertheyhavebouncedoff
theirtargetandbegintodisperseonthereturntrip.
