UNDERARM THERMOMETER - Model TU-100
READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Thank you for purchasing this HoMedics Underarm Thermometer. Please read these instructions carefully to ensure
proper and safe operation.
IMPORTANT PRODUCT NOTICES AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Please note that this product is intended for household use only and should not serve as a substitute for the advice
of a physician or medical professional. Do not use this device for diagnosis or treatment of any health problem or disease.
Measurement results are for reference only. Contact your physician if you have or suspect any medical problem.
Prolonged high fever requires medical attention - especially for young children.
This thermometer should only be used under the supervision of an adult.
To avoid injury, do not allow children to walk or run during temperature measurement.
WHAT IS NORMAL BODY TEMPERATURE? WHAT IS FEVER?
Normal body temperature is a range that varies from person to person, by age, and throughout the day. The average
normal body temperature is 98.F (37°C). Generally, an underarm temperature ranging between 9F (35.C) and
99°F (37.C) is considered normal. A rectal temperature is generally 2°F higher and an oral temperature will be 1°F higher.
Fever is defined as a body temperature elevated over an individual's normal body temperature. It is important to
determine each person's normal body temperature in order to properly assess whether or not a fever is actually present.
This can easily be determined by tracking temperatures on a consistent basis, measuring at the same time each day.
WHAT IS THE FEVER ALARM?
The Fever Alarm is a unique feature that will alert the user anytime a temperature reading is 100°F (37.8°C) or greater with an
audio alert of 30 short beeps. For readings at or above this temperature, it is LIKELY that a fever is present.
NOTE: A temperature reading below 100°F (37.8°C) does not mean that a fever is not present. Likewise, a temperature
greater than or equal to 100°F (37.8°C) does not guarantee the presence of a fever.
BEFORE USE
This Underarm Thermometer is designed for measuring only underarm (axillary) temperatures in children. It is recommended
that for 20 minutes prior to use, the user should avoid eating, drinking, physical activity, or taking showers/baths.
OPERATING YOUR UNDERARM THERMOMETER
Press the ON/OFF button to activate the thermometer. The unit will beep and all display symbols will appear for
about 2 seconds. The thermometer will then display the last temperature reading taken for 1 second. The display
will next show 98.6°F (or 3C) for about 1 second while the unit performs a self-test. The °F (or °C) symbol will then
begin flashing, indicating that the thermometer is ready for use.
During measurement, the display will show the highest temperature measured during the reading. To begin a
temperature reading, the thermometer should already be under the arm when the ON/OFF button is pressed.
Otherwise, the display will show “Lo” until it is placed under the arm.
UNDERARM (AXILLARY) USE
1. It is suggested that the user sit
quietly with their arm at their side
for 5 minutes prior to measurement.
2. Wipe the underarm with a dry towel.
3.Place the sensor under the arm
as shown in the illustration, then
lower the arm so that it is positioned
next to the body. The flexible
portion and the display should
wrap around the user’s arm.
4. When the peak temperature is
reached the thermometer will
alert with 10 beeps. Remove the thermometer from under the arm once you hear the beeps. The temperature
measurement is ready to read and will not change when removed from under the arm.
NOTE: Under the arm temperatures are generally 1° lower than a temperature taken orally and 2° lower than a
temperature taken rectally.
7. If the temperature is greater than or equal to 10F (37.8°C), the fever alarm will alert with a total of 30 short beeps.
8. Turn the thermometer off by pressing the ON/OFF button. If you forget to turn the thermometer off, it will
automatically shut-off after approximately 10 minutes of non-operation.

8. Apague el termómetro presionando el bon ON/OFF. Si olvida apagar el termómetro, se apagará
