READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Thank you for purchasing this HoMedics Digital Thermometer. Please read these instructions carefully to ensure
proper and safe operation.
IMPORTANT PRODUCT NOTICES AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Please note that this product is intended for household use only and should not serve as a substitute for the advice
of a physician or medical professional. Do not use this device for diagnosis or treatment of any health problem or disease.
Measurement results are for reference only. Contact your physician if you have or suspect any medical problem.
Prolonged high fever requires medical attention - especially for young children.
This thermometer should only be used under the supervision of an adult.
To avoid injury, do not allow children to walk or run during temperature measurement.
WHAT IS NORMAL BODY TEMPERATURE? WHAT IS FEVER?
Normal body temperature is a range that varies from person to person, by age, and throughout the day. The average
normal body temperature is 98.F (37°C). Generally, an oral temperature ranging between 9F (36.1°C) and 100°F
(37.C) is considered normal. A rectal temperature is generally 1°F higher and an underarm (axillary) temperature will
be F lower.
Fever is defined as a body temperature elevated over an individual's normal body temperature. It is important to
determine each person's normal body temperature in order to properly assess whether or not a fever is actually present.
This can easily be determined by tracking temperatures on a consistent basis, measuring at the same site on the body
and at the same time each day.
WHAT IS THE FEVER ALARM?
The Fever Alarm is a unique feature that will alert the user anytime a temperature reading is 100° F (37.C) or greater
with an audio alert of 30 short beeps. For readings at or above this temperature, it is LIKELY that a fever is present.
NOTE: A temperature reading below 10F (37.8°C) does not mean that a fever is not present. Likewise, a
temperature greater than or equal to 100°F (37.8°C) does not guarantee the presence of a fever.
BEFORE USE
It is recommended that the user avoid eating or drinking, smoking, exercising, or taking showers/baths for 20 minutes
prior to measurement.
PROBE COVERS
Disposable probe covers are recommended for use with this Digital Thermometer. To avoid contamination, place a
probe cover on the probe tip each time the thermometer will be used. Use only HoMedics probe covers for this
Digital Thermometer. Additional probe covers can be purchased from drug stores or pharmacy departments or by
contacting HoMedics Consumer Relations at 1-800-466-3342.
OPERATING YOUR DIGITAL THERMOMETER
Press the ON/OFF button to activate the thermometer. The unit will beep and all display symbols will appear for
about 2 seconds. The thermometer will then display the last temperature reading taken for 1 second. The display
will next show 98.F (or 3C) for about 1 second while the unit performs a self-test. The °F (or °C) symbol then will
begin flashing, indicating that the thermometer is ready for use.
During measurement, the display will show the highest temperature measured during the reading. To begin a
temperature reading, the thermometer should already be in the mouth, underarm or rectum when the ON/OFF button
is pressed. Otherwise, the display will show Lo” until it is placed into the measurement site.
ORAL USE
1. It is suggested that the user sit quietly for 5 minutes with their mouth closed prior to taking a reading.
2. Cover the thermometer probe with a probe cover.
3.Place the probe under the tongue. Position the sensor tip in one of the areas
marked with a star in FIGURE 1. It is important to keep the mouth closed
during measurement to ensure an accurate reading. Be cautious not
to bite the thermometer.
4. When the peak temperature is reached, the thermometer will alert with
10 long beeps. The temperature measurement is ready to read and will not
change when removed from the mouth.
5. If the temperature is greater than or equal to 10F (37.C), the fever alarm
will alert with a total of 30 short beeps.
6. Turn the thermometer off by pressing the ON/OFF button. If you forget to turn
the thermometer off, it will automatically shut-off after approximately 10 minutes of non-operation.
7. Dispose of the used probe cover and clean the thermometer as recommended.

UNDERARM (AXILLARY) USE
1. It is suggested that the user sit quietly with their arm at their side for 5 minutes prior to measurement.
2. Wipe the underarm with a dry towel.
3. Cover the thermometer probe with a probe cover.
4. Place the probe tip under the arm so the tip
is touching the skin (FIGURE 2).
5. Lower the arm so that it is positioned next to the body (FIGURE 3).
6. When the peak temperature is reached the thermometer will alert with
10 long beeps. The temperature measurement is ready to read and will
not change when removed from under the arm.
NOTE: Under the arm temperatures are generally 1°F lower than a
temperature taken orally.
7. If the temperature is greater than or equal to 10F (37.C), the fever alarm will alert with a total of 30 short beeps.
8. Turn the thermometer off by pressing the ON/OFF button. If you forget to turn the thermometer off, it will
automatically shut-off after approximately 10 minutes of non-operation.
9. Dispose of the used probe cover and clean the thermometer as recommended.
RECTAL USE
1. Cover the thermometer probe with a probe cover and lubricate with a water-soluble personal lubricant for easier insertion.
Do not use a petroleum jelly. Read the label of the lubricant you are using to ensure that it is the appropriate kind.
2. Lay the patient on their side. When using on an infant, carefully lay the baby on its stomach with legs hanging
down, either at the edge of a bed or changing table or across your knees. This will position the infant's rectum for
safe and easy insertion.
3. Gently insert the tip of the probe NO MORE THAN 1/2inch into the rectum. Stop immediately if you detect
resistance. Hold the thermometer in place during measurement.
4. When the peak temperature is reached, the thermometer will alert with 10 long beeps. The temperature
measurement is ready to read and will not change when removed from the rectum.
NOTE: Rectal temperatures are generally 1°F higher than a temperature taken orally.
5. If the temperature is greater than or equal to 10F (37.C), the fever alarm will alert with a total of 30 short beeps.
6. Turn the thermometer off by pressing the ON/OFF button. If you forget to turn the thermometer off, it will
automatically shut-off after approximately 10 minutes of non-operation.
7. Dispose of the used probe cover and clean the thermometer as recommended.
TO RECALL THE LAST TEMPERATURE
When the thermometer is activated, the last temperature reading will automatically be displayed on the LCD display
with the letter M” for approximately 1 second.
TO CHANGE BETWEEN CELSIUS AND FAHRENHEIT TEMPERATURE READINGS
To change between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature readings:
Turn the thermometer off and then back on. Continue to press and hold the ON/OFF button for approximately
2 seconds. You will see the symbols for °F and °C change.
