5.4.3 Configure Recording Parameter
Purpose
Main stream refers to the primary stream that aī
æects data recorded to the hard disk drive and will
directly determine your video quality and image size. Comparing with the sub-stream, the main
stream provides a higher quality video with higher resoluī¦on and frame rate.

Digital Video Recorder User Manual
46
Sub-stream is a second codec that runs alongside the mainstream. It allows you to reduce the
outgoing internet bandwidth without sacriī
©cing your direct recording quality. Sub-stream is often
exclusively used by smartphone applicaīons to view live video. Users with limited internet speeds
may beneī
©t most from this setīng.
Step 1 Go to . Conī
guraī¹on > Record > Parameter
Step 2 Conī
©gure recording parameters.
ļ¬ Frame Rate: Frame rate refers to how many frames are captured each second. A higher frame
rate is advantageous when there is movement in the video stream, as it maintains image
quality throughout.
ļ¬ Resoluī¹on: Image resoluīon is a measure of how much detail a digital image can hold: the
greater the resoluīon, the greater the level of detail. Resoluīon can be speciī
©ed as the
number of pixel-columns (width) by the number of pixel-rows (height), e.g.,1024Ć768.
ļ¬ Bitrate: The bit rate (in kbit/s or Mbit/s) is often referred to as speed, but actually deī
©nes the
number of bits/īme unit and not distance/īme unit.
A higher resoluīon, frame rate, and bitrate provide you a better video quality, but it also requires
more internet bandwidth and uses more storage space on the hard disk drive.
