Instructions for Use

Congratulations on the purchase of your new “Daylight”. The product will offer

many years of reliable usage if handled correctly. Please keep your receipt,

these instructions and the original packaging safe in case of future require-

ment.

Pleasereadtheinstructionscarefullytogainthemostbenetfromyournew

“Daylight”, although the usage guidelines in this document do not replace the

adviceofyourqualiedmedicaladvisor.

How does the “Daylight” work?

Lightanditsintensityinuencemanyoftheprocessesoflife.Ifwedonot

get enough bright light, after a while the body and mind can react to this.

Many of us experience the effects of light deprivation as being unpleasant,

and as adversely affecting our quality of life. In autumn and winter, the

seasons with the least sunlight because of shorter days, increased symptoms

resultingfromlightdeprivationmaybeexperienced.Evenstandardarticial

lighting in buildings cannot compensate for a shortage of natural light. The

consequences of this may be depression, lack of drive, interrupted sleep and

melancholia – the typical autumn/winter blues.

Intended Use:

Light therapy offers you a convenient and effective way of compensating for

the lack of light without resorting to medication. It is a photo therapy devices

used for Season Affective Disorder (SAD) treatment. It can help counteract

the tiredness, low spirits, lack of concentration, loss of appetite, irritability,

and the lack of energy that many people experience in autumn and winter,

when the days are darker and shorter. These symptoms, which are thought

to be caused by a disruption of our biological clock, are referred to as SAD or

the winter blues. The “Daylight” uses very bright lights (over 10,000 luxe) to

simulate natural sunlight, whilst eliminating the dangerous UV rays contained

in sunlight. Exposure should be regular over a lengthy period (on a daily basis

for at least 1 week). The light is absorbed through the eyes and should ideally

betakenearlierintheday,inadditiontonaturaldaylightandarticiallighting.

It is not however necessary to look at the lamp constantly during exposure.

The exposure time depends on your position and how close you are to the

light source. The nearer your face is to the light, the shorter the exposure

time. You can use your “Daylight” whilst engaging in other activities, such as

reading, writing, making telephone calls or working etc. Make sure however

that you are always close enough to the light.

The additional light obtained from the “Daylight” during the darkest seasons

increases the amount of total light to which you are exposed, which should

have positive effects on your mood and general wellbeing.

Treat yourself to your “Daylight” light therapy whenever you feel like it,

although we recommend usage earlier rather than later in the day to closer

simulate natural daylight.

Contraindication:

1. Suffer(ed) from severe depression;

2. Hypersensitive to light (e.g. diabetics and epileptics);

3. Have eye complaints;

The“Daylight”isintendedforuseintheelectromagneticenvironmentspeciedbelow.The

customer or the user of the “Daylight” should ensure that it is used in such an environment.

The “Daylight” uses RF energy only for its

internal function. Therefore, its RF emissions

are very low and are not likely to cause any

interference in nearby electronic equipment.

Recommended separation distances between portable and mobile RF communications equipment and the Medical Daylight

Separation distance according to frequency of transmitter

The “Daylight” is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF disturbances are controlled.

The customer or the user of the Medical Daylight can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining a

minimum distance between portable and mobile RF communications equipment (transmitters) and the “Daylight” as

recommended below, according to the maximum output power of the communications equipment.

For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended separation distance d in meters (m) can be estimated using

NOTE 1 At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the separation distance for the higher frequency range applies.

- The “Daylight” is not intended for use by persons (including children) with

reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and

knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning

use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

- Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the

“Daylight”.

- Keepthecordawayfromhotobjectsandopenames.

- Themandatoryminimumdistancebetweenthe“Daylight”andammable

objects is 1.0 meter.

- Connect the unit only to the mains voltage listed on the type plate.

- Always remove the mains plug and let the unit cool off before you touch it.

- Do not touch the unit with wet hands while it is plugged in; do not allow any

water to be sprayed onto the unit. The unit must be operated only when it is

completely dry.

- Protect the unit from strong impacts.

- Avoid pulling the cord when removing the plug from the socket. Instead, hold

the plug.

- If the cord or the housing is damaged, contact customer service or the

dealer, since special tools are needed to make repairs. Never try to repair the

appliance yourself.

- Disconnection from the mains supply is only guaranteed if the mains plug

has been removed from the socket; do not position the daylight so that it is

difculttooperatetheplugdevice.

against your packing slip.

The “Daylight” is designed for simplicity of operation and set-up and requires

minimal assembly. The following items are included your box:

Carefully inspect each item as it is unpacked for any signs of damage which

may have occurred during shipment.

- Check for any damage or defects. Do not attempt to setup the “Daylight”

if anything is damaged or defective. Contact your supplier immediately if

anything is found to be damaged or defective.

General notes

Important

- This unit is not intended for commercial or clinical use, but only for individual,

private household use.

- If you are taking medication such as pain relievers, antihypertensives or

antidepressants, consult your doctor before using the “Daylight”.

- People with retinal diseases as well as diabetics need to be examined by an

ophthalmologist before beginning to use the “Daylight”.

- Please do not use if you have an eye disease such as cataracts, glaucoma,

diseasesoftheopticnerveingeneralandinammationofthevitreous

humour.

- If you have health concerns of any kind, contact your general practitioner!

- Only open the unit to replace the tube. Please do not attempt to repair the

unit yourself. This could result in serious injuries. Failure to observe this

regulation shall void the warranty.

- If this appliance is damaged in any way or it is not working, it should not be

still not resolved, please contact customer service or the dealer, since special

Setup

1. Remove the unit from the packaging.

2. Place the unit on a solid surface, such as a table, and adjust the folding

tripod.

3. It is recommended that you keep your face 20 - 50 cm away from the light

during use.

Mains connection

Connect the unit only to the mains voltage listed on the type plate.

- Push the plug completely into the mains socket.

- Ensure that there is a socket near the place where the lamp will stand.

- Lay the mains cable in such a way that no one can trip over it.

Fastening of Daylight on the wall

There is a mounting hole on the back side of the Daylight. At this mounting

holetheunitcanbexedonthewellwithscrew.Dependingonthetypeof

wall, an appropriate screw must be used, may be with pegs. E.g. for concrete

wall, M4, 25mm long Stainless Steel Self-Tapping Screw which is screwed into

a anchor. The screw and the anchor are not included in the scope of delivery.

Operation

R e p l a c i n g t h e l a m p t u b e s

1. Switching on the lamp

Press the ON/OFF button on the upper edge of the lamp to switch on the

“Daylight”.

Note

The brightness of the tubes may be visibly different when switched on. The

tubes develop their full luminosity after a couple of minutes.

2. Taking the light

Now sit down in front of the light or as close to it as comfortable, between 20

cm and 50 cm. You can go about your normal activities while using it. You can

read, write, make telephone calls, etc.

When using the lamp, try to maintain the recommended distance of 20 - 50

cm between your face and the lamp.

Usage guidelines are as follows:

In effect, the closer you are to the source of light, the less time you need to

use it.

Note

- Do not look directly into the light continuously! Some eye pain or mild

headaches may be experienced during initial sessions but these should pass.

If in doubt just lower your treatment times until comfortable again.

- Do not leave the appliance unattended in the duration.

- Do not touch the device in the duration. Let the device cool down for at least

3. Enjoying light over longer periods

During the darkest part of the year, repeat the treatment for at least 7

consecutive days, or for longer, depending on your individual requirements.

4. Switching off the “Daylight”

Press the ON/OFF button on the upper edge of the lamp to switch off the

“Daylight”. Pull the mains plug from the socket.

Replacing the lamp:

In the event that the lights are faulty, or when they come to end of their life, the

two light tubes can be replaced. NOTE: Do not replace the lamp tubes which

are not provided by the supplier. To do so, proceed as follows:

- Always unplug the “Daylight” and let it cool off.

- For safety reasons, do not remove any components or screws other than

thosespeciedbelow.

1. Slacken the retaining screws on

the back using a screwdriver, lay the

apparatus on its back and remove the

screen.

Note

The two brackets on the front of the

screen will become loose when the

screws are slackened. Take care not

to lose them, or the screen cannot be

rettedcorrectly.

2. Cut the cable ties and bend the

tube’stwotransparentretainingclips

by pulling them gently upwards.

Cable ties are used for transport

protection only.

3. Carefully pull the tube up over the

housing rim (1) and out of the housing,

then sideways out of the frame (2).

4. When inserting the tube, following

these instructions in reverse order.



The light tubes contain a small amount of mercury sealed within the glass

tubing, when a tube breaks in your home, some of this mercury is released as

mercury vapor. To minimize exposure to mercury vapor, we recommend that

users follow the cleanup and disposal steps as follows:

Before Cleanup:

- have people and pets leave the room and air out the room for 5-10 minutes

by opening a window or door to the outdoor environment.

- Shut off the central forced air heating/ air-conditioning system, if you have

one.

- Collect material needed to clean up broken tube, just like: stiff paper or

cardboard, sticky tape, damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes.

During Cleanup:

- Vacuuming is not recommended unless broken glass remains after all other

cleanup steps have been taken. Vacuuming could spread mercury-containing

powder or mercury vapor.

- Be thorough in collecting broken glass and visible powder.

- Place cleanup materials in a sealable container.

After Cleanup:

- Promptly place all bulb debris and cleanup materials outdoors in a trash

container or protected area until materials can be disposed of properly. Avoid

leaving any bulb fragments or cleanup materials indoors.

- If practical, continue to air out the room where the bulb was broken and leave

the heating/air conditioning system shut off for several hours.

- Do not touch the unit with wet hands.

- Clean using a damp cloth, to which you can apply a little detergent if

necessary.

- Do not let water run into the appliance or spill water onto the appliance.

- Cleaning can be done once per month.

out of reach of children. Do not keep the “Daylight” connected to a power

de mercure, nous recommandons de respecter les étapes de nettoyage et

d’éliminationsuivantes:

Avant le nettoyage :

-Évacuerlespersonnesetlesanimauxdomestiquesdelapièce,etaérer5à

10minutesenouvrantunefenêtreouuneportedonnantsurl’extérieur.

-Éteindrelesystèmedechauffageàairpulséoulaclimatisation,lecas

- Réunir le matériel nécessaire au nettoyage (papier rigide ou carton, ruban

Pendant le nettoyage :

Die Feldstärke von festen Sendern wie Basisstationen für Funktelefone (Handys / schnurlose Telefone) und Mo-

bilfunk, Amateurfunk, AM-und FM-Rundfunk-und Fernsehsender können theoretisch nicht vorhergesagt werden

mit Genauigkeit. Um die elektromagnetische Umgebung hinsichtlich der stationären Sender zu ermitteln, eine

elektromagnetische Bewertung sollte erwogen werden. Wenn die gemessene Feldstärke an dem Standort, an

dem die Tageslichtlampe ist verwendet überschreitet die geltenden HF-Grenzwerte vor, sollte die medizinische

Tageslichtlampe beobachtet werden, um zu überprüfen normalen Betrieb. Wenn ungewöhnliche Leistungsmerk-

male beobachtet werden, können zusätzliche Maßnahmen erforderlich sein, wie z.

B. die Neuorientierung oder Umsetzung des Tageslichtlampe.

Achtung

•Benutzen Sie die Lampe nicht an feuchten Orten.

•Entfernen Sie vor der Benutzung sämtliche Verpackungsteile und prüfen das Gerät auf Beschädigun-

gen. Wenn Sie sich unsicher sind, kontaktieren Sie den Kundenservice.

•Das Gerät darf nur von geeigneten Personen verwendet werden.

•Kinder sollte bei der Benutzung beaufsichtigt werden. Diese Lampe ist kein Spielzeug.

•Halten Sie das Netzkabel fern von Hitze und offenen Feuer.

•Der Mindestabstand zwischen der Lampe und brennbaren Gegenständen muss 1m betragen.

•Die Betriebsspannung muss der auf dem Typenschild angegebenen entsprechen.

•Ziehen Sie nach dem Benutzen den Netzstecker und lassen die Lampe abkühlen.

•Fassen Sie die Lampe nie mit feuchten Händen an. Halten Sie diese fern Feuchtigkeit.

•Schützen Sie die Lampe vor starken Stößen.

•Ziehen Sie nie am Netzkabel, fassen Sie zum Ziehen des Steckers diesen an.

•Sollte das Netzkabel beschädigt sein, muss es umgehend von Fachpersonal getauscht werden. Ver-

suchen Sie nie die Lampe selber zu reparieren.

•Das Trennen vom Stromnetz kann nur durch ziehen des Netzsteckers erfolgen. Verwenden Sie immer

eine gut zugängliche Steckdose.

Dieses Gerät ist nicht für den gewerblichen oder klinischen Gebrauch bestimmt, sondern ausschließlich

zur Eigenanwendung im privaten Haushalt! Die Anwendung der Tageslichtlampe ist KEINE

medizinische Behandlung.

•Bei Einnahme von Medikamenten wie Schmerzmittel, Blutdrucksenkern und Antidepressiva sollte

vorher mit dem Arzt über den Einsatz der Tageslichtlampe gesprochen werden.

•Bei Menschen mit Netzhauterkrankungen sollte vor Beginn der Tageslichtanwendung genauso wie bei

Diabetikern eine Untersuchung beim Augenarzt gemacht werden.

•Bitte nicht anwenden bei Augenkrankheiten wie Grauer Star, Grüner Star, Erkrankungen des Sehnervs

allgemein und bei Entzündungen des Glaskörpers.

•Bei gesundheitlichen Bedenken irgendwelcher Art konsultieren Sie Ihren Hausarzt!

Aufstellen und Inbetriebnahme:

stabilisieren Sie den Stand mit Hilfe des ausklappbaren Stativs.

Stecken Sie den Netzstecker in die Steckdose und betätigen Sie den Ein- und Ausschalter am oberen

Rand der Lampe. Die Betriebsspannung muss der auf dem Typenschild angegebenen entsprechen.

Betätigen Sie nach der Nutzung den Ein- und Ausschalter am oberen Rand der Lampe. Ziehen Sie den

Netzstecker aus der Steckdose.

Montage der Tageslichtlampe an einer Wand

AufderRückseitedesGerätsbendensicheinMontageloch.SiekönnendieTageslichtlampeaneiner

Schraube aufhängen. Je nach Wand müssen Sie eine geeignete Befestigungsart wählen z.B. bei Beton

eine Schraube und Dübel. Das Befestigungsmaterial ist nicht im Lieferumfang enthalten.

Wichtig

•Sollte das Befestigungsloch beschädigt sein, hängen Sie die Lampe nicht auf und wenden Sie sich an

den Kundenservice.

ACHTUNG!

Nach dem Gebrauch ist die Lampe heiß. Lassen Sie das Gerät zuerst ausreichend lange (10 Minuten)

abkühlen, bevor Sie es anfassen und beräumen!

Grundlegende Anwendung

Setzen Sie sich in die Nähe (20 bis 50cm Entfernung vom Gesicht) der Lampe. Während der Anwendung können

Sie Alltagshandlungen nachgehen und beispielsweise lesen, schreiben und telefonieren.

Notiz

Die Lampe erreicht erst nach ein paar Minuten die vollständige Helligkeit.

•Blicken Sie hin und wieder kurz direkt in das Licht.

•Blicken Sie nicht während des gesamten Zeitraums der Anwendung direkt in das Licht. Hierdurch könnte unter

Umständen zu einer Überreizung der Netzhaut kommen.

•Fangen Sie mit einer kürzeren Bestrahlungsdauer an, die dann im Laufe einer Woche sukzessive gesteigert

werden kann.

Hinweis:

Im Zuge der ersten Anwendungen können gegebenenfalls Augen- und Kopfschmerzen auftreten, welche in den

Folgesitzungen ausbleiben, da sich das Nervensystem dann an die neuen Reize angepasst hat. Unterbrechen Sie

in diesem Fall die Anwendung und reduzieren Sie die Nutzungsdauer.

Anwendungsdauer:

Der empfohlene Abstand zwischen Gesicht und Lampe beträgt 20 - 50 cm.

Bei einem Abstand von 20cm sollte die Anwendungsdauer höchstens 0,5 Stunden am Tag betragen.

Bei einem Abstand von 40cm sollte die Anwendungsdauer höchstens 1 Stunde am Tag betragen. Bei einem Abstand

von 60cm sollte die Anwendungsdauer höchstens 2 Stunde am Tag betragen. Grundsätzlich gilt - je näher man der

Lichtquelle ist, desto kürzer die Anwendungszeit.

Anwendungszeitraum:

Wiederholen Sie die Anwendung in den lichtarmen Jahreszeiten bzw. unter lichtarmen Bedingungen mind. an

7 aufeinander folgenden Tagen oder – entsprechend Ihrer individuellen Bedürfnisse – auch länger. Ideal ist die

Anwendung in den Morgenstunden.

ReinigungundPege:

Vor der Reinigung muss das Gerät abgeschaltet, vom Netz genommen und ausreichend abgekühlt sein. Zur

Reinigung nutzen Sie ein feuchtes Tuch und gegebenenfalls etwas Spülmittel. Achten Sie hierbei darauf, dass kein

Wasser in der Innere des Gerätes vordringt. Nutzen Sie keine scharfen Reinigungsmittel und setzen Sie das Gerät

niemals Wasser aus. Reinigen Sie das Gerät nicht in einer Spülmaschine.

Im angeschlossenen Zustand darf das Gerät nicht mit feuchten Händen angefasst werden. Das Gerät darf keinem

spritzenden Wasser ausgesetzt werden und darf nur im trockenen Zustand bedient werden.

Ersetzen der Leuchtstoffröhren

Sollte die Leuchtmittel defekt sein oder das Ende Ihrer Lebensdauer erreicht habe, können Sie diese aus-

tauschen. Verwenden Sie hierzu nur vom Herstellen zugelassene Ersatzleuchtmittel.

Folgen Sie diesen Schritten:

•Trennen Sie die Lampe vom Stromnetz und lassen Sie diese abkühlen.

•Lösen Sie keine anderen Bauteile als hier beschrieben.

1. Lösen Sie dies Schrauben. Drehen Sie die Lampe

herum und entfernen den Lampenschirm.

Notiz

Die beiden Klammern an der Vorderseite des Lampen-

schirms werden lose, sobald man die Schrauben auf

der Rückseite löst.

Lösen Sie diese nicht, da man den Lampenschirm nicht

wieder befestigen kann.

2. Lösen Sie die Leuchtmittel aus den 4 Klammern.

Ziehen Sie die Klammern kräftig nach oben.

Notiz

Die Kabelbinder sind nur eine Transportsicherung.

3. Ziehen Sie die Leuchtmittel vorsichtig über den

Gehäuserand (1) und dann zur Seite weg.

4. Setzen Sie die neuen Leuchtmittel ein und bauen

das Gehäuse in umgekehrter Reihenfolge wieder

zusammen.

Die Leuchtmittel enthalten eine geringe Menge Quecksilber. Sollte eines Zerbrechen tritt das Quecksilber als Quecksilber-

dampf aus. Damit Sie diesem so wenig wie möglich ausgesetzt werden, beachten Sie folgende Schritte zur Entsorgung:

Vor dem Entsorgen:

•Alle Personen und Haustiere müssen den Raum umgehend verlassen. Belüften Sie den Raum durch Öffnen sämtlicher Türen

und Fenster für 5 bis 10 Minuten.

•Schalten Sie das zentrale Lüftung- bzw. Klimasystem falls vorhanden ab.

•Legen Sie die zur Entsorgung notwendigen Dinge zurecht: festes Papier oder Pappe, Klebeband, Papiertücher oder feuchte

Einwegtücher.

\Die Entsorgung:

•Das Aufsaugen der Glasreste ist vor der Entsorgung des Quecksilbers nicht empfohlen. Dieses führt zur Verteilung der

Quecksilberdämpfe im gesamten Raum.

•Sammelt Sie das Glas und sichtbaren Staub auf.

•Verpacken Sie alle Reste in einem verschließbaren Gefäß.

Nach der Entsorgung:

•Lagern Sie die Abfälle außerhalb der Wohnräume und entsorgen diese bei einer passenden Sammelstelle.

•Falls möglich sollte das zentrale Lüftung- bzw. Klimasystem abgeschaltet bleiben und die Räume noch für einige Stunden

gelüftet werden.

Lagerung

Bei Nichtbenutzung sollte die Lampe an einen trockenen Ort außerhalb der Reichweite von Kinder gelagert werden.

Das Gerät darf nicht mit dem Stromnetz verbunden bleiben. Die Lagerbedingungen müssen wie folgt sein:
