CARDIOID® MICROPHONE
he A K G / C r o w n PCC170 (left) is a
surface-mounted supercardioid
micr e of profeophon ssi aon l quality. This
handsomely styled unit is appr ate opri
for e on the most elegant ardroom table or us bo
lectern. Other application uds i lnc e chur es, ch
courtrooms and council chambers.
Because of s hi ly dit gh irec al pi p pation cku ttern,
the PCC170 minimi s backgr d ise and ze oun no
f aeedb ck. The microphone repr es the oduc voice
with a cl n, cl r and natural sound. ea ea
Si e the micr e capsule is placed on nc ophon a
boundary or ace, dsurf irect and reflected sounds
arrive at the diaphragm in- ase. This coherenph t
addition of d ect and reir flected waves i r senc ea s
sensitivity 6 dB and prevents ase caph ncella-
tions. The mic capsule is all enough to ensursm e
phase coherency up to the hi est egh fr quencies in
the audible spectrum, resulting in a wide, smooth
frequency response ee of ase intefr ph rference.
Clarity and r ch are also eea nhanced.
Self-contained elec ics etron liminate the need for
an in-line pr . Peamp owered by - V antom 12 48 ph
power, the PCC170 has a l -iow mpedance mic-
level balanced t t ich permou pu wh its l g cablon e
r s wun ithou hut m pickup or hi -gh frequency loss.
The connector is a Switchcraft . TB3M
RFI suppression is i l ed. - ise is low nc ud Self no
and sensitivity is very hi . A bagh ss-tilt switch
allows the user to tailor the l -end response foow r
parti lar acu pplications.
The PCC170 SW Version (right) has
additionally a silent-operating programmable
membrane switch that can be congured for
touch ON/OFF, momentary ON or
momentary OFF. The PCC170 SW O looks
identical to the PCC170 SW but features a
pair of extra leads in the mic cable to allow
isolated remote sensing of the microphone
switch closure.
How to Set the Bass Tilt Switch
On the bottom of the micr e is a BASS-TILophon T
switch with three iti : FL , Cpos ons AT UT, and
BOOST. It adj ts the l - eus ow fr quency response as
shown in Fig. 1.
The FLAT position pr ides a ov flat l - eow fr quency
response, for rmal age. The Pno us CC170 is
shi ed pp from the factory in FLAT iti . pos on
The CUT position rolls o the bass, eful ius n
noisy or boomy surroundings.
The BOOST position boosts the bass for a more
natural sound en the mic is ed on a all wh us sm
surface such as a lectern.
How to Adj t the Hi -Fus gh reque y Responsenc
The microphone is factory-set for at response afl t
high frequencies. You can raise or l er the ow
hi - egh fr quency response for ecial asp pplications.
Pl se fo ow this pr eea ll oc dure:
1. On the bottom of the microphone, nd thfi e
hole labeled HF ADJ. This trim pot adj ts thus e
hi - egh fr quency response as shown in Fig. 1.

I installat on
Typical placement for ch microphone is aea t
arm s length om the er. Place e micro- fr us on
phon one in fr t of ch per n or e betwea so on een
every two people. The front of the micr e iophon s
i icated by an and rrow on the bottom of the base
plate.
If the microphone is used on a lectern, place it on
an en ace, t in a cavop surf no ity. Otherwise the
frequency response and lar papo ttern will be
degraded.
Connect the far end of the mic cable to the input
of a phant - er supply such as a AKG/ C r o w n om pow
PH4B. Connect the out t of the pu phantom epow r
supply to a mixer mic i t. npu
Or, if your mixer has phantom power t in, buil
connect ch mic cable dea irec y to a mixer mitl c
i t. npu
The PCC i l es two keyhole slots in nc ud its base to
accept mounting resc ws. To rew the PCC to sc a
table t , foop llow this procedure:
1. Punch out the keyholes marked on the label
undern th the base plate ( e a r or bladeea us az ,
small screwdriver, etc.).
2. Using the template (Fig. 6), mark the l aoc tion
of two les in the table ere u want tho wh yo o
mount the mic. These holes are 1.6 in. (4.06 cm)
apart, center-to-center. They are 2.2 in. (5.588
cm) om the r r of the mic. fr ea See Fig. 5.
Fig. 6
3. Screw two #8 woodscrews (0. in. [0.686 270
cm] dia. head) into the table at the l aoc tions you
marked.
4. Loosen the screws enough to receive the mic
and to hold it with a fric on t. ti
