6. Installing the Switch
This๎˜ƒpart๎˜ƒ describes๎˜ƒhow๎˜ƒ to๎˜ƒinstall๎˜ƒ your๎˜ƒ Fast๎˜ƒ Ethernet๎˜ƒSwitch๎˜ƒ
and make connections to it. Please read the following topics
and perform the procedures in the order being presented.
Note
This๎˜ƒ Switch๎˜ƒ does๎˜ƒ not๎˜ƒ need๎˜ƒ software๎˜ƒ
configuration.
Desktop Installation
To๎˜ƒinstall๎˜ƒthe๎˜ƒSwitch๎˜ƒ on๎˜ƒdesktop,๎˜ƒsimply๎˜ƒ follow๎˜ƒthe๎˜ƒ following๎˜ƒ
steps:
Step 1: Place the Switch on the desk near a power source.
Step 2:๎˜ƒ Keep๎˜ƒ some๎˜ƒ ventilation๎˜ƒ space๎˜ƒ between๎˜ƒ the๎˜ƒ Switch๎˜ƒ
and the surrounding objects.
Note
When choosing a location, please keep in
mind๎˜ƒ the๎˜ƒ environmental๎˜ƒ restrictions๎˜ƒ discussed๎˜ƒ
in Chapter 7 under Product Specifications.

Step 3:๎˜ƒ Connect๎˜ƒyour๎˜ƒSwitch๎˜ƒto๎˜ƒnetwork๎˜ƒdevices.
A. Connect one end of a standard network cable
to๎˜ƒ the๎˜ƒ 10/100๎˜ƒ RJ45๎˜ƒ ports๎˜ƒ on๎˜ƒ the๎˜ƒ rear๎˜ƒ panel๎˜ƒ of๎˜ƒ
the Switch.
B. Connect the other end of the cable to the
network๎˜ƒ devices๎˜ƒ such๎˜ƒ as๎˜ƒ printer๎˜ƒ servers,๎˜ƒ
workstations or routers, etc.
Step 4: Supply power to the Switch.
A. Connect one end of the power cable to the
Switch.
B.๎˜ƒConnect๎˜ƒ the๎˜ƒ 5V๎˜ƒ DC๎˜ƒ power๎˜ƒ adapter๎˜ƒ to๎˜ƒ a๎˜ƒ
standard wall outlet.
When๎˜ƒ the๎˜ƒ Switch๎˜ƒ receives๎˜ƒ power,๎˜ƒ the๎˜ƒ Power๎˜ƒ LED๎˜ƒ should๎˜ƒ
remain solid Green.
