SimpleNet (Powerline AV500 Ethernet Adapter) ā¢ Quick Install Guide English
This quick install guide presents basic installation steps. For operation details
and speciīcations, refer to the user manual on the included Setup CD or at
manhattan-products.com.
Setup
The SimpleNet Powerline AV500 Ethernet Adapter is a Plug and Play device. By
simply pressing a button, you can securely connect to the Internet or to other
devices (computers, Blu-ray players, game consoles, etc.) on a network.
1. Use the included Ethernet cable to connect the
adapter to your modem or router. If you are
setting up with the Starter Kit, connect one of the
two included adapters to your modem or router.
2. Plug each adapter into an AC power outlet near
the device which youāll be connecting to that
particular adapter. Donāt plug SimpleNet Adapters into a power Caution:
strip or outlet that uses surge protection, as this may prevent them from
working properly.
3. Once a SimpleNet Adapter is
connected and powered, it
will look for other SimpleNet
Adapters (bridges) connected
to the same wiring system in
your building. When another
adapter is found, the PL
(Powerline) LED will light.
Remember that you need at
least two SimpleNet adapters
connected to the buildingās
wiring system for this to work.
Note: If the PL LED lights red,
it means that a connectionās
been established, though
not necessarily at optimum
speed. The connection speed
should still be fast enough for online gaming and video streaming.

Adding Security to Your Adapter Network
The following steps are optional but highly recommended to ensure maximum
security ā important in environments like apartment buildings, where a
wiring system is shared.
ā¢ If you are setting up your īrst two SimpleNet Powerline AV500 Ethernet
Adapters, once both of them are powered and connected to devices:
ā Press the Security button on Adapter 1 for 1-3 seconds.
ā Within 2 minutes, press the Security button on Adapter 2 for 1-3 seconds.
The Power LEDs will ī®ash while the devices are
establishing a secure connection, then remain
lit once the connection has been established.
ā¢ If youāre adding more adapters to an established
network, follow the same procedure: set up the
new adapter, then ā within 2 minutes ā press
the Security buttons on each adapter for 1-3
seconds.
Note: If an added adapter was previously
installed on a diīµerent SimpleNet network, īrst
reset it to factory defaults by pressing the
Security (Reset) button for 12 seconds.
LED Status Indication
PWR On The adapter is powered and ready for operation.
Blinking rapidly The adapter is listening for other devices.
Blinking slowly The adapter is in a power-saving mode (Standby),
(4 seconds on, 8 oļ¬) which it enters automatically if no other adapter
can be found on the network.
Oļ¬ The adapter is not operating.
PL Red A weak signal is providing a slow network speed
(below 50 Mbps).
Orange A normal signal is providing a standard network
speed (50-99 Mbps).
Green An excellent signal is providing an optimal network
speed (100 Mbps or above).
Oļ¬ No activity/connection.
ETH On The adapter is linked.
Blinking The adapter is transmitting/receiving.
Oļ¬ The adapter is inactive.
