The basal temperature method can assist in determining and predicting maximum and minimum
fertile days, for use in planning pregnancies, and for understanding the menstrual cycle and
ovulation in women.
NOTE: Only your physician can interpret the variations in individual graphs.
WHAT IS BASAL TEMPERATURE?
Basal temperature is the lowest normal body temperature of a person immediately upon
awakening in the morning. Specifically, it is the body temperature that is measured AFTER a
restful nights sleep, but BEFORE you get out of bed, move, talk, drink, eat, smoke, etc. To
achieve the optimum basal temperature reading, it should be taken while still “half asleep” and
taken at the same time every morning upon first waking.
The use of charting basal temperature will indicate the slight body changes taking place during
the menstrual cycle (the interval between the beginning of one period and the onset of the next
period). A pattern of temperature fluctuation in the monthly cycle will develop and be noticed. The
slight increase in basal temperature indicates ovulation or fertility by which a pattern of activity to
either achieve conception or avoid pregnancy can be regulated.
Although, the generally accepted “normal” oral temperature of a healthy person is 98.60

C), the basal oral temperature in the first part of a cycle is usually in a range between
96.50

C). In approximately the last two weeks of the cycle, the
basal temperature is typically 0.50
o

C) higher. NOTE: The shift from the lower to the higher
temperature occurs at around the time of ovulation.
Since ovulation (the release of an egg (ovum) from the ovary) ordinarily happens only ONCE
during each menstrual cycle, charting basal temperature can be helpful in determining if and
when ovulation occurs. If intercourse takes place at or near this time, during the interval of the
transition between low and high temperature level, conception can take place.
NOTE: 1. It is important to carefully record basal temperature upon first awakening.
2. Normal temperature varies according to the location of the temperature reading.
FEATURES OF YOUR DIGITAL BASAL THERMOMETER:
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Before and after each use, clean the area that extends about 2” from the tip of the thermometer
with a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol diluted with water, or wash with COLD soapy water.
NOTE: 1. The use of any other solution or cleaning method beyond the above mentioned
may result in reliability problems with the thermometer.
2. Do not let water or any solution penetrate the thermometer’s display window,
battery cover or back cover.
HOW TO TAKE YOUR ORAL BASAL TEMPERATURE
1. Press the on-off power button. A “beep” tone will sound and for
2 seconds the window will display 188.880E. This indicates that the unit is
in proper working condition.
2. After the 2 seconds, the last measured temperature will display for about
3 seconds. NOTE: Lo0F will display if no temperature higher than 89.600F
was measured during the previous use.
3. After the display of the last measured reading, the unit will perform a
self-calibration and display 97.700F for about one second.
4. The unit is ready to start measuring and displays the measured
temperature, with the symbol 0
F flashing. If the existing temperature is
below 89.600F, the display will show Lo0F. If the measured temperature is
over 109.400F, the display will show Hi 0F.
5. Place the thermometer probe tip under your tongue as near as
possible to the heat pocket as illustrated in the diagram.
* The heat pocket locations are identified at the base of the
tongue on the floor of the mouth.
6. Hold thermometer in the same spot under your tongue with
mouth closed for approximately one minute or until the
temperature is stabilized.
7. When the peak temperature is reached or temperature stabilizes
the 0F symbol will stop flashing and 4 beep tones will sound.
8. Avoid pressing the on-off switch while carefully removing the thermometer. Record the
temperature result on the appropriate chart.
9. Press the on-off button to turn off the power. If the thermometer is inadvertently left on, the
power will automatically turn off within approximately 16 minutes once the temperature has
stabilized.

CARING FOR YOUR DIGITAL BASAL THERMOMETER
1. The thermometer should only be used under the supervision of an adult.
2. Do not bend, drop or attempt to disassemble the basal thermometer.
3. Do not run, walk or talk during temperature taking.
4. Simply place the sensor tip under the tongue while taking your oral temperature. Avoid biting
the sensor tip.
5. Before and after each use, clean the thermometer and store in the case provided with the
unit.
6. Do not store the unit where it will be exposed to direct sunlight, dust or humidity. Avoid
extreme temperatures.
7. Dropping or subjecting your thermometer to strong shocks should be avoided.
8. Prevent water, cleaning solution or saliva from entering the display window or battery cover.
9. Do not attempt to disassemble the unit, except to replace the battery.
10. If the thermometer becomes contaminated, clean it with a soft cloth and the recommended
cleaning solution (see “Cleaning Instructions”). NEVER USE TOLUENE products, which may
deteriorate the resin body and damage the thermometer circuitry. Use only isopropyl alcohol
to disinfect the tip.
11. It is suggested that the battery be removed, if the thermometer will not be used for a long
time.
12. If ERR displays and measurement is not attainable, the unit must be replaced.
13. Replace the battery when the “ ” symbol displays.
NOTE: Performance of the device may be degraded if: operated outside of stated temperature
and humidity range; stored outside of stated temperature and humidity range; thermometer
undergoes mechanical shock (drop); patient temperature is below ambient temperature.
HOW TO REPLACE THE BATTERY
The battery needs to be replaced when the “ ” symbol appears in the display window. Replace
with one 1.55V button size battery, LR41 type or equivalent.
1. A small Phillips-head screwdriver will be required to remove the battery
cover as shown in the diagram.
2. Use a toothpick or insulated probe to remove the battery as
illustrated in the following diagram. Do not use a sharp metal
object while attempting to remove the battery.
3. Insert the new battery making sure that the battery polarity is
correctly placed.
NOTE: The battery should be inserted with the positive side (+) facing up and the negative side (-)
facing down.
4. Replace and securely fasten the cover.
WARNING: DO NOT swallow a button battery. DO NOT dispose battery in or near fire. DO NOT
attempt to recharge the battery.

El método de medición de temperatura basal puede asistir en la determinación y predicción de
los días mås y menos fértiles para planificar embarazos y comprender el ciclo menstrual y la
ovulaciĂłn en las mujeres.
NOTA: Sólo su médico puede interpretar las variaciones en gråficos individuales.
QUÉ SIGNIFICA TEMPERATURA BASAL
La temperatura basal es la temperatura corporal normal mĂĄs baja de una persona inmediata-
mente después de despertarse en la mañana. Específicamente, es la temperatura corporal
medida DESPUÉS del sueño de una noche de descanso, pero ANTES de salir de la cama,
moverse, hablar, beber, comer, fumar, etc. Para lograr la Ăłptima lectura de la temperatura basal,
debe tomarse cuando todavĂ­a se estĂĄ “semidormido” y al mismo tiempo todas las mañanas ni
bien se despierta.
El uso de los grĂĄficos de temperatura basal indicarĂĄ los cambios corporales leves que tienen
lugar durante el ciclo menstrual (el intervalo entre el comienzo de un perĂ­odo y el inicio del
siguiente). Se desarrollarĂĄ y notarĂĄ un patrĂłn de fluctuaciĂłn de temperatura en el ciclo mensual.
El leve aumento de la temperatura basal indica la ovulaciĂłn o fertilidad por la cual podrĂĄ
regularse un patrĂłn de actividad para lograr la concepciĂłn o evitar el embarazo.
Si bien la temperatura oral “normal” generalmente aceptada de una persona saludable es de
98.6oF (37.0oC), la temperatura basal oral en la primera parte de un ciclo, por lo general, estĂĄ
comprendida entre 96.5oF (35.8oC) y 98.0oF (36.7oC). En aproximadamente las Ășltimas dos
semanas del ciclo la temperatura basal es, tĂ­picamente, 0.5oF (0.3oC) mayor. NOTA: El cambio de
la temperatura inferior a la superior ocurre cerca del momento de la ovulaciĂłn.
Debido a que la ovulaciĂłn (la liberaciĂłn de un huevo (Ăłvulo) del ovario), comĂșnmente sucede
sĂłlo UNA VEZ durante cada ciclo menstrual, los grĂĄficos de temperatura basal pueden resultar
de utilidad para determinar si y cuĂĄndo ocurre la ovulaciĂłn. Si la relaciĂłn sexual tiene lugar en
ese momento o cerca de Ă©l, durante el intervalo de transiciĂłn entre el nivel de temperatura baja y
alta, puede producirse la concepciĂłn.
NOTA: 1. Es importante registrar cuidadosamente la temperatura basal ni bien se despierta.
2. La temperatura normal varĂ­a segĂșn el lugar del cuerpo donde se tome la lectura.
FUNCIONES DE SU TERMÓMETRO BASAL DIGITAL:
INSTRUCCIONES DE LIMPIEZA
Antes y despuĂ©s de cada uso, limpie el ĂĄrea que se extiende aproximadamente 2” desde la
punta del termómetro con un paño suave y alcohol de isopropilo diluido en agua o låvela con
agua jabonosa FRÍA.
NOTA: 1. El uso de cualquier otra solución o método de limpieza distinto del antedicho podría
dañar la confiabilidad del termómetro.
2. No deje que el agua ni ninguna otra soluciĂłn penetre en la ventana del visor del
termĂłmetro, tapa de baterĂ­a ni tapa posterior.
CÓMO TOMAR SU TEMPERATURA BASAL ORAL
1. Pulse el botĂłn de encendido (ON/OFF). Se escucharĂĄ un tono audible
(beep) y durante 2 segundos se visualizarĂĄ 188.88 oE en el visor para
indicar que la unidad estĂĄ en condiciones operativas.
2.DespuĂ©s de 2 segundos, se visualizarĂĄ la Ășltima temperatura medida
durante aproximadamente 3 segundos. NOTA: Se visualizará “LooF” si no se
midiĂł una temperatura superior a 89.60oF durante el uso anterior.
3.Una vez visualizada la Ășltima lectura medida, la unidad efectuarĂĄ una
calibraciĂłn automĂĄtica y visualizarĂĄ 97.70oF durante aproximadamente
un segundo.
4.La unidad estĂĄ lista para comenzar a medir y visualizarĂĄ la temperatura
medida, con el símbolo “oF” titilante. Si la temperatura existente es inferior
a 89.60 o
F, en el visor se presentará “Lo oF”. Si la temperatura medida
supera los 109.40 o
F, el visor indicará “HioF”.
5. Coloque el medidor del termĂłmetro debajo de la lengua, tan cerca como
pueda de la zona de calor, segĂșn se ilustra en el diagrama.
*Los lugares de la zona de calor estĂĄn identificados en la base de
la lengua, en el piso de la boca.
6. Sostenga el termĂłmetro en el mismo lugar, debajo de la lengua,
con la boca cerrada durante aproximadamente un minuto o hasta
que se estabilice la temperatura.
7. Cuando se alcance la temperatura pico o se estabilice Ă©sta, el sĂ­m-
bolo “ o
F” dejará de titilar y se escucharán 4 tonos audibles (beeps).
8. Evite presionar el interruptor de encendido/apagado mientras retira
cuidadosamente el termĂłmetro. Registre el resultado de la
temperatura en la planilla adecuada.
9. Pulse el botĂłn de encendido/apagado para apagar la unidad. Si el
termĂłmetro queda inadvertidamente encendido, se apagarĂĄ automĂĄticamente en aproximada-
mente 16 minutos, una vez que se haya estabilizado la temperatura.
NOTA: Para tomar mediciones consistentes, comience con el termĂłmetro apagado y tome cada
mediciĂłn desde el principio.

CUIDADO DE SU TERMÓMETRO BASAL DIGITAL
1. Siempre utilice el termĂłmetro con la supervisiĂłn un adulto.
2. No doble, deje caer ni intente desarmar el termĂłmetro basal.
3. No camine, corra o hable durante la toma de la termperatura.
4. Simplemente coloque el medidor debajo de la lengua mientras toma su temperatura oral.
Evite morder el medidor.
5. Limpie el termómetro antes y después de cada uso.
6. No exponga el termĂłmetro a la luz directa del sol, altas temperaturas, suciedad o humedad.
7. Evite dejar caer el termĂłmetro o los grandes golpes.
8. Evite el ingreso de agua, soluciĂłn de limpieza o saliva en la ventana del visor o tapa de
baterĂ­a.
9. No intente desarmar la unidad, excepto para cambiar la baterĂ­a.
10. Si el termómetro se contamina, límpielo con un paño suave y la solución de limpieza
recomendada (consulte “Instrucciones de Limpieza”). NO USE JAMÁS productos con
TOLUENO, pues pueden deteriorar la carcasa de resina y dañar los circuitos del termómetro.
Use sĂłlo alcohol de isopropilo para desinfectar la punta.
11. Se sugiere retirar la baterĂ­a, si el termĂłmetro no se usa durante un tiempo prolongado.
12. Si aparece ERR en el visor y no se obtiene una medida, deberĂĄ reemplazar la unidad.
13. Cambie la baterĂ­a cuando se visualice el sĂ­mbolo
NOTA: El desempeño de este dispositivo puede verse afectado si: se opera fuera de los niveles
de temperatura y humedad recomendados, si se almacena bajo niveles de temperatura y
humedad fuera de los recomendados, si el termĂłmetro se somete a un golpe mecĂĄnico (se lo
deja caer), si la temperatura del paciente estĂĄ por debajo de la temperatura ambiente.
CÓMO CAMBIAR LA BATERÍA
SerĂĄ necesario cambiar la baterĂ­a cuando se presente el sĂ­mbolo en la ventana del visor.
ReemplĂĄcela por una baterĂ­a botĂłn de 1,55V, tipo LR41 o equivalente.
1. Necesitarå un destornillador pequeño tipo Phillips para retirar la tapa de la
baterĂ­a segĂșn se indica en el diagrama.
2. Use un mondadientes o sonda aislante para retirar la baterĂ­a segĂșn se
ilustra en el siguiente diagrama. No use un objeto de metal puntiagudo
para intentar retirar la baterĂ­a.
3. Inserte la baterĂ­a nueva asegurĂĄndose de colocar adecuadamente la
polaridad. NOTA: La baterĂ­a debe insertarse con el lado positivo (+)
hacia arriba y el negativo (–) hacia abajo.
4. Cambie la baterĂ­a y fije bien la tapa en la posicĂ­on correcta.
ADVERTENCIA: NO trague la baterĂ­a.
NO arroje la baterĂ­a en o cerca del fuego.
NO intente recargar la baterĂ­a.
