7. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s
instructions.
8. Do not install near any heat sources such
as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other
apparatus that produce heat.
9. Protect the power cord from being walked on
or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience
receptacles, and the point where they
exit from the apparatus. If the power cord
becomes frayed, stop using immediately.
10. Use only attachments/accessories specied
by the manufacturer
11. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket
or table specied by the manufacturer, or
sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used,
use caution when moving the cart/apparatus
combination to avoid injury from tip-over.
12. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms
or when unused for long periods of time.
13. Refer all servicing to qualied service
personnel. Servicing is required when
the apparatus has been damaged in any
way, such as power supply cord or plug is
damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects
have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus
has been exposed to rain or moisture, does
not operate normally, or has been dropped.
14. This apparatus shall not be exposed to
dripping or splashing, and no object lled with
liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the
apparatus.
15. Note that this apparatus is not completely
disconnected from the AC mains service when
the power switch is in the OFF position.
16. The mains plug or power inlet on the product
is used as the disconnect device, so the
disconnected device shall remain readily
operable when reconnected.
17. Any changes or modications not expressly
approved in this manual could void your
authority to operate this apparatus.
Important !
Be sure to only use the supplied 3-prong
IEC cable provided with this unit.

tended to alert the user to the presence

Quick Start Guide
1. Mute your studio monitors.
2. Connect your LiN2A to your mixing bus or
patch bay then using balanced TRS cables.
3. Set all controls fullly counter-clockwise.
4. Set the switch to ON, and apply power. Power
Power LED meter will light up.
5. Unmute your monitors, and verify that signal
is passing to and from the unit.
6. Set the and controls to Gain Peak Reduction
about 12 o’clock, and set the to Meter mode
Gain Reduction. Increase the Input until the
meter is deecting a few dB.
7. Once again verify signal is passing through the
unit. If so, the unit is functioning correctly.
Basic Use
Use the control to set the desired Peak Reduction
amount of compression. Higher Peak Reduction
settings will result in a quieter signal; use the Gain
control to compensate for this loss. Try to match
the original level as closely as possible for A/B
comparisons that aren’t colored by differences in
overall volume.
Compression Modes
‱ Compress: A gentler compression setting of
roughly 3:1. Note that in the ‘2A compression
style, compression is variable depending on
the dynamic range of the program material.
Higher Peak Reduction values result in slight-
ly higher compression ratios.
‱ Limit: A hard limiter with a ∞:1 ratio.
What about Attack/Release?
Part of the allure of ‘2A-style compression is its
ease of use, thanks in no small part to its hard-
wired attack and release settings. Expect it to
sound great with no fuss.
Attack time is incredibly fast at around 10 milli-
seconds. About 1/40th the time it takes to blink.
Release time is dependent opon the amount of
compression applied by the conPeak Reduction -
trol, and can range anywhere from half a second
to ve seconds for total release.
Meter Calibration
Making sure that the meter returns to zero is im-
portant to the Lin2A’s functionality. This is con-
trolled the the master calibration set screw on the
back of the unit.
To calibrate, set the to Gain Metering Mode
Reduction and ensure that no audio is passing
through the unit. Then, using a athead
screwdriver, rotate the screw on the rear panel
until the needle rests on 0.
Voila! Meter calibrated.
The T4BLA Optocell
The LiN2A features a custom-designed Black Lion
Audio T4BLA Optocell. It yields sublime transpar-
ency and smooth gain reduction due to highly
selective trimming of its photocell.
1. Power Button: turns the Lin 2A
on/off.
2. Mode: Sets Lin2A to Limit or
Compress mode.
3. Gain: Sets the post-compression
make-up gain to compensate for
level lost during compression
4. VU Meter: Displays units select-
ed by Meter Mode.
5. Peak Reduction: Sets the de-
sired amount of compression/
limiting.
6. Meter Mode: Sets the type of
information rendered on the
meter. Gain Reduction meters
the amount of gain reduction ap-
plied. and Output +10 Output
+4 will render the Output level
as respectively described.
7. : ONLY use the AC Power Input
supplied IEC Cable to power this
unit.
8. Voltage setting: Select the volt-
age suitable to your region. Do
not power the Lin-2A by inap-
propriate voltage.
9. Grounding plug: The unit
should only be used in a prop-
erly-grounded studio. Do not de-
feat the third-pin ground for use
in an ungrounded studio.
10. Meter Calibration: Use this con-
trol to adjust the 0 resting point
when no compression is being
applied.
11. TRS Output: Balanced line-level
output.
12. TRS Input: Balanced line-level
input.
Note: For proper
performance, balanced
TRS must be used for all
inputs and outputs.
