Please hold the telescope when disengaging the DEC Gear Switch. HEM is operated under
unbalanced condions and could be pped o if the tripod is not secured.
1. Remove mount head from package:
2. Set up tripod: An HEM15 mount uses 3/8”-16
threaded hole for aachment. So a camera tripod or
other tripod with a 3/8”-16 mounng post can be
used. Shown here is an iOptron carbon ber tripod
#8061.
3. Aach mount head: Thread the mount head onto the
tripod head and secure it.
Level the mount by adjusng the tripod legs Use the .
built-in Bubble Level Indicator or an external level er
for this purpose.
4. Adjust latitude: Without any payload, slightly loosen
the 4x Latude Locking Screws. Use the Latude
Adjustment Knob to set the correct latude value, as
displayed in the Latude Mark Window.
Insert the Allen wrench into the Latude Adjustment
Knob for more turning torque.
Two latude ranges, 15~41° and 39~65°, can be set
up for the mount head. To change the latude range
from one to the other, both the Latude Posion Bolt
and the Latude Locking Screws need to be moved to
the correct locaons.
To switch the latude range:
Loosen the Latude Locking Screws just enough
to adjust the latude seng to between 39~
41°. Tighten Latude Locking Screws.

Unthread and pull out the Posion Bolt Remove .
and do not lose two black spacers/tubes Insert .
the Posion Bolt to a new latude posion with
one spacer on.
Adjust the Latude Adjustment Knob while
holding the boom brass eyebolt unl it lines up
with the Posion Bolt. Insert another spacer and
secure the Latude Posion Bolt.
Move the Latude Locking Screws (one on each
side) to the new locaons revealed.
5. Install telescope: An HEM mount accepts a Vixen 15
dovetail mounng plate.
Release the dovetail Saddle Locking Lever and slide
the telescope dove il plate into the saddle with Gear ta
Switch disengaged. Make sure that the arrow sign on
the saddle is poinng forward. Tighten the Saddle
Locking Lever.
Pull the lever and turn it to the posion that the lever
is parallel to the saddle or points towards the scope
to prevent it interfering with the DEC unit during
mount GOTO and tracking.
6. Balance payload: No RA balance is needed for an
HEM mount.
Turn the mount power on. Press number 9 to change
the slew speed to max. Press or buon to slew ◄ ►
the telescope to one side of the mount. Hold the
telescope and disengage DEC Gear Switch to check
the balance Release the dovetail saddle locking lever .
and move the scope back and forth to adjust the
posion. Tighten the dovetail saddle locking lever and
engage the gear switch aer balancing is completed.
Return the mount to Zero Posion aer balancing
and engage the DEC gear switch.
7. Set Zero Posion: Set Zero PosionThe command
registers the current posion as zero posion. So
before registering, the mount should be physically set
at Zero Posion either manually or slewed by hand
controller. The Zero Posion is dened as the
telescope being on top of the mount head and
poinng to the North Pole, with CW sha mounng
hole poinng to the ground. To register, press
MENU Zero Posion Set Zero Posion=> => . Press
ENTER to conrm. One can also use MENU=>Zero
Posion Search Zero Posion => to set the zero
Posion.
8. Set controller: MENU ess the Pr buon; then
“ ” “Sengs => Set Time & Site”.
Enter the current date. Enter the me zone oset to
the UTC; for examples:
Boston is “UTC -300 minutes ”
Los Angeles is “UTC -480 minutes ”
Rome is “UTC +060 minutes ”
Sydney is “UTC +600 minutes ”
Enter the longitude and latude coordinate of your
locaon in D:M:S format Toggle the Daylight Saving .
Time (DST) between N (No) and Y (Yes) using the
2022 05 05 12:01:36- -
