Overview
The Carrier Relative Humidity with Thermistor Wall Plate Series utilizes a thermoset
polymer capacitive sensing element with a factory applied hygroscopic îlter to deliver a
proportional analog voltage output signal. The hygroscopic îlter provides added
resistance to moisture, dust, and other chemicals for greater long term reliability. The
RH Stainless Plate transmitter features integral DIP switches for îeld selection of the
proper output signal and supply voltage to meet your applications requirements. Each
unit also contains 0%, 50%, and 100% test options to verify that the transmitter is both
working and properly installed. Field calibration can be performed by using the
increment and decrement calibration DIP switches without the need to replace the
sensing element. These enhancements provide increased îexibility and outstanding
long-term reliability. All RH Stainless Plate transmitters come standard with an attractive brushed înish stainless steel,
single gang wall mounting plate and are designed to mount over a single gang junction box in the wall. The PCBs are
conformally coated for added protection from moisture and other contaminants. A temporary plastic sensor cover is
included to provide protection for the RH sensor from chemicals used in wash down applications.

Installation
For optimal readings, follow these tips:
ï· The sensor should be mounted in the middle of the duct where air circulation is well mixed (no stratiîcation), and not
blocked by obstructions. Stratiîcation and obstructions can cause sensing errors. An example is downstream from a
heating or cooling coil.
ï· Duct probe should be placed (3) to (4) duct segments down from any bend or obstructions and away from 90° bends.
ï· Mount the sensor on the top or sides of duct work; mounting on the bottom risks damage due to moisture.
Mounting Instructions
The Euro enclosure (- -4X) requires a EH) requires a 0.875â (22.23 mm) hole in the duct, and the Nema 4X enclosure (
1.25â (31.75 mm) hole - see Figure 2. After drilling, insert the probe through the hole until the foam pad is tight to the duct.
Drill pilot holes for the mounting screws. Use the enclosure as a guide, or use the dimensions listed on the right to
measure out.
Now fasten and insert mounting screws through the mounting holes and tighten until the unit is held îrmly to the duct.

Precautions
ï· Do not run the temperature sensor wiring in any conduit with line voltage (24/120/230 VAC) if utilizing resistance
temperature signal.
ï· Remove power before wiring. Never connect or disconnect wiring with power applied.
ï· When using a shielded cable, ground the shield only at the controller end. Grounding both ends can cause a ground
loop.
ï· It is recommended you use an isolated UL-listed class 2 transformer when powering the unit with 24 VAC. Failure to
wire the devices with the correct polarity when sharing transformers may result in damage to any device powered by
the shared transformer.
ï· If the 24 VDC or 24VAC power is shared with devices that have coils such as relays, solenoids, or other inductors,
each coil must have an MOV, DC/AC Transorb, Transient Voltage Suppressor, or diode placed across the coil or
inductor. The cathode, or banded side of the DC Transorb or diode, connects to the positive side of the power supply.
Without these snubbers, coils produce very large voltage spikes when de-energizing that can cause malfunction or
destruction of electronic circuits.
Relative Humidity Wiring Instructions
Open the cover of the enclosure. Carrier recommends 16 to 26 AWG twisted pair wires or shielded cable for all
transmitters. Twisted pair may be used for 2-wire current output transmitters or 3-wire for voltage output. Refer to Figure 6
for wiring diagrams.
