packaging, but keep it till youāre satisļ¬ed that the appliance is working.

Follow basic safety precautions, including:
1 The appliance must only be used by or under the supervision of a responsible adult. Use and
store the appliance out of reach of children.
2 Donāt put the appliance in liquid, donāt use it in a bathroom, near water, or outdoors.
3 When using a single toasting slot, donāt let anything get into the other slot, as both
slots will be āliveā when the lever is lowered.
4 Sit the toaster upright on a ļ¬rm, level, heat-resistant surface.
5 Bread may burn. Donāt use the appliance near or below curtains or other combustible
materials and watch it while itās hot.
6 The area round the toasting slots gets very hot ā donāt touch!
7 Route the cable so it doesnāt overhang, and canāt be tripped over or caught.
8 Donāt cover the appliance or put anything on top of it.
9 If bread gets jammed, unplug the toaster, let it cool, and carefully remove the bread.
10 Donāt toast ābutteredā items, they may catch ļ¬re.
11 Donāt use torn, curled, or misshapen bread, you may jam the toaster.
12 Unplug the appliance when not in use.
13 Donāt use the toaster unless the crumb tray is ļ¬tted and closed.
14 Donāt use the appliance for any purpose other than those described in these instructions.
15 This appliance must not be operated by an external timer or remote control system.
16 Donāt operate the appliance if itās damaged or malfunctions.
17 If the cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or
someone similarly qualiļ¬ed, in order to avoid hazard.

before using for the ļ¬rst time
Set the browning level to maximum (6). Operate the appliance empty, to cure the new elements.
This may smell a bit, but itās nothing to worry about. Ensure the room is well ventilated.

1 Put the plug into the power socket.
2 Turn the browning control to the required setting (1 = light, 6 = dark).
3 Put bread into the toasting slots (maximum thickness 25mm).
4 Press the lever down fully.
, It wonāt lock down unless the toaster is connected to the electricity supply.

5 The light will come on, and the elements will heat up.5
6 When itās done, the toast will pop up.

8 Leave the browning control at your favoured setting, insert the frozen bread, lower the lever,
then press the button.f
9 The light will come on, and the toasting time will be altered automatically to give the same f
degree of browning you get with unfrozen bread.

10 Only the brown outside surfaces of bagels should be toasted, the soft inner surfaces
shouldnāt be browned.
11 Split your bagel, and put the two halves into the slots with the brown outsides facing the
outside elements.
12 Leave the browning control at your favoured setting, lower the lever, then press the b
button.

13 Leave the browning control at your favoured setting, insert the bread, lower the lever, then
press the button.m
14 The light will come on, and the toast will be given a short burst of heat.m
15 Only reheat plain, āunbutteredā toast.
bun warmer
16 Donāt use the bun warmer to warm frozen, buttered, coated, iced, or ļ¬lled buns.
17 Sit the bun warmer on top of the toaster, with the feet inside the slots.
18 Sit the buns on top of the bun warmer.
19 Set the browning level to 1, then lower the lever.
20 When the lever pops up, remove the warmed buns.
21 Donāt touch the bun warmer wires ā theyāll be hot.
22 Remove the bun warmer before using the toaster normally.
care and maintenance
23 Unplug the toaster and let it cool down.
24 Wipe outer surfaces with a damp cloth.
25 Remove and empty the crumb tray.
26 Wipe with a damp cloth, dry, then replace it in the toaster.
