pOSItIOnInG yOUR pOWERED SUBWOOFER
Klipsch powered subwoofers are designed to reproduce the deep bass and deliver
the impact that really makes your movies and music come alive. For optimum
performance, place your subwoofer in a corner of the room on the same wall
as your front channel speakers. Refer to Figure 1 for placement. Please note
that room placement can have a dramatic effect upon the performance of your
powered subwoofer. Corner placement, as suggested above, will increase the
amount of bass output, while placing the subwoofer along the middle of a wall,
or out in the room will decrease the amount of bass output but many result in
tighter sounding bass. Experiment with a number of different placement options
and control settings to ļ¬nd the one that best suits your particular room and taste.
When choosing your subwooferās location, keep in mind that you will need to con-
nect the subwooferās built-in ampliļ¬er to an AC power outlet.
COnnECtInG yOUR pOWERED SUBWOOFER tO yOUR ELECtROnICS
Controls and Optional Connections ā Powered subwoofers can be hooked
up to the subwoofer output of your electronics via the RCA jack inputs on the
subwooferās rear panel. Refer to Figure 2. This is prefered over the conventional
speaker wire connections. For more information on the controls mentioned in this
manual and on bass management, see your dealer or visit www.klipsch.com.
āLine Inā ā This input is ļ¬ltered by the built-in Low Pass (LP) crossover and is
designed as a general purpose input for the subwoofer.
Conventional Speaker Wire Connection ā Using 16-gauge or larger speaker
wire, connect the RED āpositiveā (+) terminal of your ampliļ¬erās LEFT channel to
the RED āpositiveā (+) terminal of your subwooferās LEFT channel input (āSpeaker
Inā). Connect the BLACK ānegativeā (ā) terminal of your ampliļ¬erās LEFT chan-
nel to the BLACK ānegativeā (ā) terminal of your subwooferās LEFT channel input
(āSpeaker Inā). Repeat this procedure for connecting your ampliļ¬erās RIGHT chan-
nel to your subwooferās RIGHT channel input. Refer to Figure 2. Take care to make
sure that no bare wires from any of the connections touch any other terminals as
this could cause a short and damage your equipment.
āLow Pass (LP) Crossoverā ā The crossover allows the user to select the
upper-frequency cutoff of the subwoofer. The frequency is selectable from 40-
120Hz. Frequencies above the set level are ļ¬ltered out, allowing you to blend the
subwooferās output into your main speakers.
āLevelā ā The āLevelā control serves as an overall volume control for the sub-
woofer. It is used to match the output level of the sub to your main speakers.
āPhase 0/180ā ā This control is used to acoustically match the subwooferās
output to your main speakers. You want to select one of the two positions, either
0 or 180, in which your sub has more output at your listening position.
āPower Off/Auto/Onā ā āOFF/AUTO/ONā - Selecting āAutoā allows the sub
to turn on the audio ampliļ¬cation when it senses an audio input signal. It will
automatically turn off the audio ampliļ¬cation after 20 minutes if no signal input
is detected. The sub has an LED on the bottom of the front panel that indicates
the status of the auto function. The LED will light RED when the ampliļ¬er is in the
āOffā position or in the āAutoā position with no audio signal, and GREEN when the
ampliļ¬er is receiving a signal in the āAutoā position or when in the āOnā position.
CaRE anD CLEanInG OF yOUR pOWERED SUBWOOFER
The only thing you should ever need to do to your speakers is dust them oc-
casionally. Never apply any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner or any harsh deter-
gent. You can clean the grilles with the brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner.
