. The COMMANDMIC IIITM is a
remote control microphone for use with the IC-M604
or else.
Please read the connected transceiverâs instruction
manual carefully before installation and operation.
These instructions are just described the remote-
control operations only.
qBUSY/TRANSMIT INDICATOR
â„âBBUUSSYYâ appears when receiving a signal or when the
squelch opens.
â„âTTXXâ appears while transmitting.
wRECEIVER ATTENUATOR INDICATOR
âLLOOCCâ appears when the Attenuator function is in use.
eSCRAMBLER INDICATOR
âSSCCRRAAMMâ appears when an optional voice scrambler is acti-
vated.
rSCAN INDICATOR
â„Either âNNOORRMMAALL SSCCAANNâ or âPPRRII--SSCCAANN 1166â scan type
appears while scanning.
â„âDDUUAALL 1166â appears during dualwatch; âTTRRII 1166â ap-
pears during tri-watch.
tSELECTOR STATUS INDICATOR
Indicates the [SELECTOR] active status;
â[[VVOOLL]]â appears when [SELECTOR] as the audio volume.
â[[SSQQLL]]â appears when [SELECTOR] as the noise squelch
controller.
â[[CCHH ]]â appears when [SELECTOR] as the channel selector.
yPOSITION INDICATOR
â„Shows the GPS position data.
âąâ
????â may blink every 2 sec. instead of position data when
the GPS position data is invalid. In this case, the last position
data is held for up to 23.5 hours.
âąâ
????â may blink every 2 sec. instead of position data 4 hours
after the position data is input manually, up until 23.5 hours
have past.
â„âNNoo PPoossiittiioonnâ appears when no GPS receiver is con-
nected and no position data is input manually.
uTIME ZONE INDICATOR
â„âLLooccaallâ appears when the offset time data in the âSet
upâ menu is entered.
â„âNNoo TTiimmeeâ appears when no GPS receiver is connected
and no time data is input manually.
iCHANNEL COMMENT INDICATOR
Channel comment appears, if programmed.
oCHANNEL NUMBER READOUT
Indicates the selected operating channel number.
!0 KEY LOCK INDICATOR
â„Appears while the Key Lock function is in use.
â„Blinks while the All Key Lock function is in use.
!1 LOW BATTERY INDICATOR
ââ blinks when the battery voltage drops to approx. 10 V
DC or below.
!2 CALL CHANNEL INDICATOR
â„
âCCAALLLLâ appears when the call channel is selected.
â„âAALLEERRTTâ appears when the Weather Alert function is in
use; blinks when an alert tone is received.
!3 CHANNEL GROUP INDICATOR
Indicates whether an International âIINNTT,â U.S.A. âUUSSAA,â
Canadian âCCAANNâ or weather âWWXXâ channel is selected.
!4 DUPLEX INDICATOR
Appears when a duplex channel is selected.
âąDuplex channel has a different TX and RX frequency.
!5 TAG CHANNEL INDICATOR
Appears when a tag channel is selected.
!6 POWER INDICATOR
â„â2255WWâ appears when high power is selected.
â„â11WWâ appears when low power is selected.
!7 RX SPEAKER INDICATOR
Appears when an RX speaker function is activated.

ferent as these instructions depending on the connecting transceiver.

The optional HM-162 remotely controls the transceiver and pro-
vides an optional Intercom function.
qDISTRESS KEY [DISTRESS]
Push for 5 sec. transmit a Distress call.
wTRANSMIT POWER KEY [H/L]
â„Push to toggle high or low power.
âąSome Channels are set to low power only.
â„While pushing this key, other keys perform secondary
functions.
â„While pushing this key, turn power ON to toggle the All key
Lock function ON or OFF.
âąâ â blinks while the All key Lock function is in use.
âąOnly [PWR] ([CLR]/[MENU]), [DISTRESS] and [PTT] are
functional when the All key Lock function is in use.
ePTT SWITCH [PTT]
Push and hold to transmit; release to receive.
rSELECTOR DIAL [SELECTOR]

Rotate to adjust the audio level
, or select the items in DSC
menu, Set mode settings in set mode, etc.
â„Rotate to select the noise squelch level or operating chan-
nel after pushing
[VOL/SQLâąMONI ].
â„Rotate to adjust the brightness of the LCD and key back-
light while pushing [H/L].
â„Checks TAG channels or changes scanning direction dur-
ing scan.
â„Rotate to adjust the audio level during in hailer mode.
â„Rotate [SELECTOR] then push [ENT] to adjust the audio
level during in RX Speaker mode.
tENTER KEY [ENT]
â„Push to ïŹx the selected contents, or select Set mode set-
tings, etc.
â„Push for 1 sec. to indicate the GPS information of the con-
nected transceiver.
âąNo information appears when GPS receiver is not con-
nected to the transceiver.
yCLEARâąPOWER KEY [CLRâąPWR]
â„While HM-162âs power is OFF, push this key and [MENU]
for 1 sec. to turn the power ON.
âąThe connected transceiver power is also turned ON, if itâs
OFF.
â„While HM-162âs power is ON;

While pushing this key, push [MENU] to turn the HM-
162 power OFF.
âąThe connected transceiver power is also turned OFF de-
pending on the transceiverâs Set mode setting.

Push to clear the selected contents, or select Set mode
settings, etc.
uDSC MENU KEY [MENU]
â„Toggles the DSC menu ON or OFF when pushed.
â„While pushing [CLR], push this key to turn the HM-162
power ON and OFF.
iSCAN KEY [SCANâąTAG]
â„Push to start and stop Normal or Priority scan when TAG
channels are programmed.
â„Push for 1 sec. to set the displayed channel as a TAG
(scanned) channel.
â„While pushing [H/L], push for 3 sec. to clear or set all TAG
channels.
oCHANNEL/DUALWATCH/TRI-WATCH KEY
[CH/WXâąDW ]
â„Push to select and toggle the regular channels and
weather channels.
â„While pushing [H/L], push to select one of three channel
groups in sequence.
âąU.S.A., International and Canadian channels are available.
â„Push for 1 sec. to start Dualwatch or Tri-watch.
â„Push to stop Dualwatch or Tri-watch when either is acti-
vated.
â„Move the cursor backward while in the channel comment
programming condition.
!0 CHANNEL 16/CALL CHANNEL KEY [16âą9]
â„Push to select Channel 16.
â„Push for 1 sec. to select call channel.
âąâCALLâ appears when call channel is selected.
â„Push for 3 sec. to enter call channel programming condi-
tion when call channel is selected.
â„While pushing [H/L], push to enter the channel comment
programming condition.
â„While turning power ON, push to enter Set mode.
â„Advance the cursor while in channel comment program-
ming condition.
!1 VOLUME/SQUELCHâąMONITOR/LOCK KEY

â„Push to select the volume, channel or squelch setting con-
dition.
â„After pushing this key, rotate [SELECTOR] to set the
audio level, channel selection or squelch level.
â„Push for 1 sec. to turn the monitor function ON.
â„While pushing [H/L], push this to toggle the (microphone)
Key Lock function ON or OFF.
âąâ â appears while (microphone) Key Lock function is in use.
âą[PWR] ([CLR]/[MENU]), [PTT], [VOL/SQL],[H/L] and [DIS-
TRESS] still function when the (microphone) Key Lock func-
tion is turned ON.
!2 ATTENUATOR/INTERCOM/SCRAMBLER KEY
[LO/DXâąIC ]
â„Push to toggle the Attenuator function ON or OFF.
âąâ
LLOOCCâ appears when the Attenuator function is turned ON.
â„Push for 1 sec. to activate the Intercom function.
â„Calls the transceiver when pushed and held while in In-
tercom mode.
â„While pushing [H/L], activates an optional Voice scram-
bler function when itâs installed into the transceiver.
âąâSSCCRRAAMMâ appears when the Voice scrambler function is
turned ON.
âąVoice scrambler function is available depending on the
transceiver or transceiverâs version.
âąThe optional Voice scrambler function cannot be used on
Channel 16 and 70.
!3 HAILER/RX SPEAKER KEY [HAILâąRX ]
â„Push to turn the hailer mode ON or OFF.
â„Push for 1 sec. to turn the RX Speaker mode ON or OFF.
â„While pushing [H/L], push to turn the automatic foghorn
function ON or OFF.

Simplex channels, 3, 21, 23, 61, 64, 81, 82 and 83 CAN-
NOT be lawfully used by the general public in U.S.A. wa-
ters.

IMPORTANT: To maximize the readability of your transmit-
ted signal (voice), pause a few sec. after pushing [PTT],
hold the microphone 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 cm) from your
mouth and speak at a normal voice level.

The HM-162 has a selector dial, which works various functions.

â[[CCHH]]â when [SELECTOR] functions as an audio volume,
squelch controller or channel selector, respectively.
â„Pushing
[CH/WX] changes [SELECTOR]âs action to channel
selector.

[ENT] or [CLR] returns [SELECTOR]âs action to the
audio volume when
