To set the countdown start time
In the Countdown Timer Mode, press 1. . The hours digits of the countdown start A

Countdown Timer
The countdown timer can be set within a range of 1 second
to 24 hours. When the countdown reaches zero, an alarm
sounds for 10 seconds or until you press any button.
You can also select auto-repeat, which automatically x
restarts the countdown from the original value you set
whenever zero is reached.
Countdown timer functions are available in the x
Countdown Timer Mode, which you enter by pressing
C (page E-7).

for the day. Press until the D mark appears (between the end of the month
and ) while the day setting is  ashing.
When setting the alarm time using the 12-hour format, take care to set the time x
correctly as a.m. or p.m. ( indicator).PM

To stop the alarm
Press any button to stop the alarm after it starts to sound.

Alarm Types
The alarm type is determined by the settings you make, as described below.
Daily alarm
x
Set the hour and minutes for the alarm time. This type of setting causes the alarm to
sound everyday at the time you set.
Date alarm
x
Set the month, day, hour and minutes for the alarm time. This type of setting causes
the alarm to sound at the specifi c time, on the specifi c date you set.
1-Month alarm
x
Set the month, hour and minutes for the alarm time. This type of setting causes the
alarm to sound everyday at the time you set, only during the month you set.
Monthly alarm
x
Set the day, hour and minutes for the alarm time. This type of setting causes the
alarm to sound every month at the time you set, on the day you set.

Alarm
The multi-function alarm lets you specify the hour,
minutes, month, and day for the alarm (page E-14). When
the alarm is on, the alarm sounds for 20 seconds at the
preset time. When the Hourly Time Signal is on, the
watch beeps every hour on the hour.
The alarm and the Hourly Time Signal sound in all x
modes.
An alarm setting (and an Hourly Time Signal setting) x
is available in the Alarm Mode, which you enter by
pressing (page E-6).C

Backlight Precautions
The backlight uses an LED (light-emitting diode) and a light guide panel that cause
the entire display to glow for easy reading in the dark.
In any mode, press to illuminate the display for about two seconds.B
x The illumination provided by the backlight may be hard to see when viewed under
direct sunlight.
x The backlight automatically stops illuminating whenever an alarm sounds.
x Frequent use of the backlight shortens the battery life.

When you switch the backlight function on, the backlight of the watch fl ashes
whenever Alarm, Hourly Time Signal or Countdown Timer is sounding.
x Pressing at any time illuminates the display, regardless of the backlight’s B
on/off setting.
To switch the backlight function on and off
In the Timekeeping Mode, hold down for about two D
seconds to switch the backlight function on and off. When
you switch the backlight function on, an indicator appears
on the display as shown.
x The backlight function on indicator remains on the
display in all modes until you switch the backlight
function off.
x The above operation controls operation of the backlight
function only. It does not affect operation of audible
tones and signals.

x The watch’s built-in full automatic calendar automatically makes allowances for
different month lengths and leap years. Once you set the date, there should be
no reason to change it except after you have the watch’s battery replaced.
With the 12-hour format, the xPM indicator appears for times in the range of noon
to 11:59 p.m. and no indicator appears for times in the range of midnight to
11:59 a.m.
With the 24-hour format, times are displayed in the range of 0:00 to 23:59, with x
the indicator.24H
The 12-hour/24-hour timekeeping format you select in the Timekeeping Mode is x
applied in all other modes.

Auto return features
If you leave a screen with ashing digits for two or three minutes without performing
any operation, the watch automatically saves any settings you have made up to that
point and exits the setting screen.
Data and Setting Scrolling
The button is used to scroll through setting screen data on the display. Holding D
down this button during a scroll operation scrolls through the data at high speed.

Stopwatch
The stopwatch lets you measure elapsed time, split times,
and two fi nishes. The range of the stopwatch is 23 hours,
59 minutes, 59 seconds.
x For the fi rst 60 minutes, the display shows minutes,
seconds, and 1/100 second. After 60 minutes, the
display format changes to show hours, minutes, and
seconds.
x All of the operations in this section are performed in
the Stopwatch Mode, which you enter by pressing C
(page E-7).

To use the countdown timer
Press while in the Countdown Timer Mode to start the countdown timer.D
When the end of the countdown is reached and auto-repeat is turned off, the alarm x
sounds for 10 seconds or until you stop it by pressing any button. The countdown
time is automatically reset to its starting value after the alarm stops.

xD D while a countdown operation is in progress to pause it. Press again to
resume the countdown.
To completely stop a countdown operation, fi rst pause it (by pressing
xD), and then
